Floor Sanding

Sanding Process
The correct way to refurbish an old floor to look like new takes a three stage process of preparation, sanding and finishing.
As time goes on wooden floors can become damaged, scratched, uneven and stained. By uncovering the original wood underneath damaged coating you can refinish the floor to its original state - as intended.

Clean & remove furniture
Plan for the sanding process by removing carpets, rugs and floor coverings to expose the wooden floorboards underneath.

Be sure to remove furniture, curtains and window dressing that will obstruct the sanding equipment and plan ahead.

Repair & inspection
Floor sanding needs floor repair first, removing nails and debris that will ruin equipment and damage wood in the sanding process.
Inspecting wooden floors is crucial to prepare for sanding.

Sealing rooms
The sanding process is mostly dust free but the nature of floor sanding means there will be some sawdust around. To mitigate against this it is important to keep sockets covered and doors sealed.
This also helps when applying floor varnish, floor wax and stain as cannot enter from another room.

Protective Equipment
The room where floor sanding takes place should be well ventilated with electric socket access and good lighting.
It is important to wear glasses and safety masks if you are sanding floors yourself and should have the right, professional sanding equipment.
